A CHARMED DEATH
#2 in the Bewitching Mystery series
Available December 5th, 2006 {yes, today!!} at a bookstore near you.

All sighting reports welcome!!!!!!

And check out this new and exclusive interview: Spotlight Feature Interview

I had a lot of fun answering these thought-provoking questions for BarnesandNoble.com's Ransom Notes newsletter. Reviewer Paul Goat Allen says this about A CHARMED DEATH:

"Mystery fans who seek out "feel-good" reads for their literary escapism (books by authors like Janet Evanovich, Charlaine Harris, Kyra Davis, et al.) should definitely check out Alt's Bewitching Mystery saga, which is powered by her Everywoman heroine O'Neill. A small-town girl struggling to find her place in the world, she has an optimistic and idealistic outlook on an oftentimes malevolent and depressing reality -- as well an addiction to old episodes of Magnum P.I. -- that makes her one of the most refreshing and endearing protagonists to grace the amateur sleuth genre in years. Alt certainly picked the right name for this series. It's a bewitching saga by a positively witchy chick. Highly recommended."

Isn't that just the most amazing thing? I cannot begin to explain how blessed and honored I am feeling right now.

Love to all on this fantabulous day,

I just finished your book and it was great! I'm looking forward to the adventures of Maggie in future books. I also scoped out your website and I must say it's nice reading about someone that has gone through the same things as myself. I'm so glad that I'm not the only one that cries at stupid commercials. :)

I have just picked up both your first and second Maggie O'Neal book, and I have to tell you, while reading the first few chapters of the first book, I almost wondered if you hadn't visited Evansville, Indiana, before you wrote this.

It was like Maggie was driving down the streets in the town where I work. And the Catholics are 'thick' around here (as they are near to Notre Dame).

I have truly enjoyed what little I have read so far. Thanks for writing....

Hi nev!

Oooooh, thanks so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed A CHARMED DEATH. :)

I do think empaths tend to get the short end of the stick sometimes as HSPs. Maybe because we're not as flashy as psychics, and maybe it's because so many do not realize what it is that they're doing. It's so hard to learn to differentiate between your feelings and someone else's that are intruding upon yours. Writing about Maggie has allowed me to present the concept to the mainstream world and, hopefully, engender some kind of understanding.

It's not always easy, as you well know. :) But I can't imagine being any other way at this stage of the game.

Francesca,

That's very interesting about Evansville! I must also admit, I am having fun with the various "guesses" as to which town in Indiana Stony Mill most closely resembles. I'll have to add Evansville to the list. LOL. But my lips are sealed. ;>

Thanks so much for buying TTWM & ACD, but thanks even more for writing in to let me know that you are enjoying the reads. :)

I saw the newest book at Barnes & Noble in San Diego (Pt. Loma, to be exact)! Quite prominantly placed, under new mysteries. Awesome!

I pre-ordered my copy through Amazon ages ago, and can't wait to start it. But I'm pacing myself. :)

Hi Julie! Prominently placed, ooh, music to my ears! Bless you for the sighting report. :)

Mad -- It's great to be able to tell you on here how much I love the books. I read THE TROUBLE WITH MAGIC in two days. And then went out immediately and bought A CHARMED DEATH. I just finished it 10 minutes ago. Then I hopped on the computer to find out when the next one is going to be out. And ended up on your website & blog. So... when is the next one coming? And can you write any faster!?! :)

Also -- I found these books at Barnes & Noble in the browsing section that is right in everyone's path as they enter the store. So I'd call that prominent!

Can't wait to read the next one -- and hopefully the 10 after that!

Hi Denyse!

Well, I'm glad you found your way here, too, and not only because you gave me some wonderfully kind comments. :) Hope you'll pop back in for new blog posts, as it seems to be the easiest way for me to keep in touch with people.

Right up front in the browsing section? Wow, how awesome is that?!?

Book 3 {no *formalized* title yet} is due out in December of 2007. Books 4, 5, and 6 have been sold to Berkley, and you know what? I'm with you. I'm hoping to be able to keep this going. Expanding my reader base seems to be the key thing here, so if you loved the books, please recommend them to your reading friends.

I did finally leave my job in December of '06, so my answer as to whether we can get the books out any faster is: we'll see. I know the writing will come faster now. With a little luck, maybe we can push up the publishing schedule a little bit as well. :)

Mad: So glad to hear you quit your job -- I'm guessing you love being able to focus on your writing. And it's certainly beneficial for us readers! I keep checking back on the blog for more information and look forward to the third book. You can bet I'll be sharing my books with others!
